Maureen Tillman

She explains that her work and inspiration comes from three gardens that she has created inside her mind. The Secret Garden, The Fairy Garden and The Zen Garden. Each one holds different sources of security and inspiration. When entering her fairy garden her artwork becomes very angelic and soft, she taps into her more childish side, exploring the thoughts of make beliveve and fairy tales. The secret garden is shadowed and very untamed and wild, this is when her creative tendencies are let free, there are dark, and more powerful imagery made when her mind is inside this garden. And finally the Zen Garden is a simple and peaceful place, in this garden she is able to slowly nurture her ideas untill they are fully grown into strong and powerful imagery.

I find her work fasinating and how she gatheres her inspiration. I love the idea of everybody having these gardens locked away in their minds, and how she has managed to convey them into managable areas so she can organize her mind and ideas so they are at optimum capacity.
