The Final In The Making....

IMAGE ONE:

Part one:

To begin i have printed out an A4 picture of my subject which i then traced over using a charcoal pencil to make it look a bit messy and smudgy. To make the lines more defined i used the burn tool to go over the whole image so that they became darkened. I love the effect it has given the image i think that it shows alot of emotion and no expression has been lost.

Part Two:
I found this image very difficult to edit over because of the powerful expression. I could not find anything to link in with the image and the more i edited it the less effect it had. I found it look cluttered and messy i was not happy about the overall image at all. I am going to try again but with a more simple portrait a blank canvas free of any ideas so i can completely remake it.

IMAGE TWO:

Part one:

To begin i have this simple portrait of my sister. She has a blank expression which will make it much more easier to edit over.

To this image i used a flower brush which i created on photoshop, to begin to frame her eyes. I wanted to give the illusion that she was wearing a mask, i didn't want there to be any harsh edges or to show a block shape covering her face. Individually i layered each brush on top of each other trying to keep in with the natural curves and shapes of her face. I wanted to to look as if her face was made up of flowers and vines. I love the natural effect the tiny colour bursts in the mask also look very aesthetically pleasing i didn't want the whole image to be made up of solid black. I edited her eyes so that they were illuminated and look unnatural. To do this i used mainly the dodge tool to incorporate the bright yellow tones in her eyes, to define and frame them i used the burn tool to go around the edges and the inner pupil.

To this image i saturated just slightly so the subject looked off colour. I didn't want to go completely black and white because i wanted to give her skin a lifeless and aged look. I used curves to slightly adjust the brightness and overall lighting.

To give the mask more definition i added an image of vines, i made them trail down her left side. I loved the shapes and i thought they fit into my concept of this image.

To her eyes i added a cooling photo filter, i wanted to make her eyes very icy and cold. I chose blue because it is a very clean and natural colour i also love how bright and vivid they look compared to her dull skin. They contrast quite strongly with the black mask.

To finish i added over a layer which had the texture of a scratched black board. The grungy scratches and marks i think helped the image to link all together, it softened the mask slightly and helped it to blend into her face more.

Overall i love my final image, I am really happy with how all the layers mixed together.
